A Year of Resilience and Support
In 2020, the 15th of May area faced an unprecedented crisis. This community, where many homes were constructed from wood or simple blocks, was struck by a sudden and devastating flood. The flood swept through the area, destroying countless homes and displacing families. In the midst of this chaos, our community center, Chance for a Better Life, became more than just a center—it became a lifeline. We opened our doors and offered shelter, support, and a safe space for those who had lost everything.
Our organization rallied to help the families not only with immediate relief during the flood but also in the challenging days that followed. As the community worked to rebuild, we stood beside them, providing essential resources, comfort, and aid.
Shortly after the flood, another challenge arose: the COVID-19 pandemic. The virus brought with it new hardships, especially for those who had already been impacted by the flood. Despite these challenges, we did not stop our educational programs. We adapted by going to the homes of children, providing them with the support they needed both mentally and educationally. Our team ensured that they continued learning and received emotional support during this difficult time.
The resilience shown by the people of the 15th of May area and the unwavering support from our team defined this period. Our community center’s role as a shelter and resource hub strengthened bonds and reinforced our mission to be there for those in need, no matter the circumstances.
